Selecting a light source for photocatalysis and photochemistry comes down to effective optical output, spectral fit and long-run stability; for in-situ coupling with XPS, IR or Raman instruments, footprint and optical-path flexibility become equally important. The Perfectlight liquid-cooled xenon lamp combines high output, broad spectral coverage, compact construction and stable operation in one unit.
Xenon lamps of the same nominal power can differ greatly in real optical output because of collection optics - specifying rated power alone often leaves experiments under-illuminated. The lamp uses a 300 W xenon bulb with 150-300 W adjustable output; at 300 W the total measured optical output reaches 65.48 W, providing ample irradiance for photocatalytic experiments.
In materials and photocatalysis research, properties are often monitored under illumination, but conventional sources rarely fit the space and optical-path constraints of spectrometers, and light loses intensity before reaching the sample. This source supports fiber optics and customized optical paths, enabling in-situ illumination systems coupled to XPS, IR and Raman instruments. Tests and user feedback confirm high effective sample-side irradiance remains available in coupled configurations.
Compared with a conventional xenon source, the unit is about 85.8% smaller and weighs roughly 15 kg. The lamp head rotates freely through 360 degrees, so irradiation direction can be adapted to different experimental spaces and optical layouts.
