Energy & Environmental Science: Multi-Functional Photochemical Reactor Assists Professor Xiao Yuan Zhou's Research Group in Achieving Latest Breakthroughs in Photocatalytic CO₂ Reduction

Professor Xiao Yuan Zhou's team at Chongqing University reported in December 2023 a photochromic monatomic Ag/TiO2 catalyst for selective CO2 photo-reduction to CH4. The research was published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science, with an impact factor of 32.5.

The study designed an Ag/TiO2 monatomic catalyst, which exhibited a visible light-induced color change phenomenon that promoted charge transfer and separation while suppressing the recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. The synergistic effect of Ag and Ti dual sites facilitated the CO2 photo-reduction to generate CH4. The proposed integrated design concept, especially the visually observable electron-capturing photochromism, opens a new avenue for significantly improving the yield and efficiency of photogenerated electrons to accelerate various photocatalytic reduction reactions.

PLR MFPR-I Multi-Functional Photochemical Reactor is a pressure-resistant photocatalytic device capable of conducting powder-to-light catalysis, membrane photocatalysis, and photoelectrochemistry under certain temperature and pressure conditions in liquid-solid, gas-solid, and gas-liquid-solid multiphase systems. It also performs automatic sampling of reaction gases.

PLR MFPR-I Multi-Functional Photochemical Reactor uses a kettle-type reactor with an effective volume of 100 mL. The inner wall is made of pressure-resistant glass with high chemical inertness, and the outer wall is made of stainless steel, capable of withstanding 0.9 MPa pressure. The reactor cover is made of sapphire glass, effectively transmitting a wavelength range of 0.19-5 μm, with a transmittance of >97%, a light-transmitting aperture of 27.5 mm, ensuring that the reaction proceeds under sufficient incident light irradiation.
