Field data without condition monitoring is unverifiable, and unverifiable data is worthless no matter how encouraging the numbers look. An outdoor campaign must instrument itself: irradiance, temperature and gas production, synchronized and logged, so every result carries its own context.
A pyranometer at the reactor plane, co-tilted with the receiver, is the non-negotiable core. A second reference sensor mounted horizontally connects your site data to weather-station records. For spectrally sensitive chemistry, add periodic spectral scans or a spectroradiometer. Clean the domes, soiling on a pyranometer reads as clouds.
Ambient temperature in shaded, ventilated housing; reactor or liquid temperature at the working volume, not the inlet only; and surface temperature where thermal effects matter. Under irradiation, internal temperatures run well above ambient, and the gap is the data that explains selectivity shifts.
Online gas analysis on the outlet path with calibrated range appropriate to field production rates, field volumes are larger but dilution and transient behavior differ from lab. A flow measurement completes the chain, product concentration times flow equals rate. Log all three on the same time base as light and temperature.
Sensors at the point of action, not the point of convenience; wiring protected from UV and rodents; and a calibration schedule, sensors drift outdoors faster than in labs. The monitoring system is the campaign's credibility, maintain it like the reactor itself.
