When an online gas analysis system produces data that jumps around, the cause is almost never the detector. It is usually the carrier gas supply, the tubing or a fitting that has begun to weep. A short maintenance routine removes most of this variance.
Use the purity grade the method requires and log cylinder swaps, because a grade change shifts baselines. Regulate with a two-stage regulator and confirm delivery pressure stability. Most importantly, measure the flow at the outlet during experiments, carrier drift rescales every calculated quantity, and regulators can drift without any visible symptom.
Use short runs of inert tubing, stainless steel or PTFE, and replace rather than repair aged sections. Moisture-prone setups need heated lines or traps chosen for the target products, a trap that retains your analyte is worse than no trap. Label every line so the train can be reassembled identically after maintenance.
Pressure-test the train closed at the outlet and watch the gauge for a timed interval; then verify with a soap solution on fittings, never on the detector side. For the reactor itself, sweep with carrier and confirm the measured flow equals the delivered flow, the difference is the leak rate. Repeat after any disassembly.
Blank run first, standard check second, experiment third, standard check again after long runs. Twenty minutes of checks protects eight hours of experiment.
Perfectlight's online analysis systems ship with documented maintenance procedures, and maintenance guides cover the wider workflow.
