"2024 Hubei Province Science and Technology Award" ceremony
On January 6th, at the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference, Wuhan University of Technology achieved outstanding results once again due to its excellent scientific research capabilities. The research outcome "Design, Preparation, and Application of Trapezoidal Heterojunction Photocatalytic Materials" led by Professor Yu Jiaguo won the First Prize of the Hubei Province Natural Science Award, showcasing the enormous potential of photocatalysis technology in the energy and environmental fields.

Photocatalytic materials and technologies have vast application prospects in solving energy and environmental issues, and achieving the national "dual-carbon" goals, making them a current research hotspot in international fields such as materials science, chemistry, energy, and the environment. However, key scientific challenges in the photocatalysis field, such as the easy recombination of photogenerated carriers and low photocatalytic activity, remain to be solved.
In response to the defects in the traditional Type II heterojunction and Z-type photocatalysis mechanisms, Professor Yu Jiaguo's team pioneered the concept of a novel trapezoidal heterojunction photocatalysis mechanism. They developed new methods for in-situ light XPS and Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM) characterization of photogenerated electron transfer in trapezoidal heterojunctions. This mechanism has been gradually accepted and adopted by both domestic and international peers. With Chinese characteristics, they have developed multiple efficient and stable trapezoidal heterojunction photocatalytic materials, greatly advancing the research and application of photocatalytic materials internationally.
